Mission Philly

Mission Philly III

Eighteen of our high school and college students went to Philadelphia last year to serve in the feeding ministry of Saint Mark's Church. During this past Christmastide, thirteen members of Student Ministries returned on January 2 – 4 to help Saint Mark's refurbish the historic Church of St. James the Less, now a mission of Saint Mark's, which is converting it into a school for inner city children.
Now from June 20 to 28 twenty-one Saint Francis students — led by David Hirsch, Anna Hirsch, Craig Windham, Elizabeth Axelson, and Victoria Ellsworth — return to Philadelphia for an extended mission in serving inner-city children. The group leaves from the Youth house Saturday, 20 June, at 3:00pm.
Working with the Diocese of Pennsylvania, Saint Mark's has organized City Camp '09, a nine-day exercise in community building at St. James the Less. Saint Francis Student Ministry will be the lead team providing a Day Camp (think VBS) in the exciting effort to transform St. James the Less into a school serving Philadelphia's underprivileged children.
Take the team into your prayers. They will be working hard, playing hard and praying hard as ambassadors both of Saint Francis and, more importantly, of Christ himself. Contact David Hirsch for more information. Interested in timely updates on their ministry? Beginning June 16, you can follow the Student Ministries Mission Trip blog.

Student Ministries at Saint Francis undertakes several mission trips each year. NPR reported on our recent trip to Houma, Louisiana.

The service of others in Christ's name is crucial to discipleship, and it is characteristic of youth ministry at Saint Francis. Click their names to hear two members of the class of '09 tell their stories:
