Christmas Eve

The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ: Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

If your heart catches at what we celebrate on Christmas Eve, if you sing with the heavenly host and you hear in your deepest heart what the shepherds heard and you rejoice to celebrate what Christians around the world rejoice to celebrate with you this night, St. Francis Church tells you a secret: It doesn’t get any harder than this, what we Christians believe. At Christmas as at Easter, the Faith asks us to believe one of the two mysteries hardest to believe. And look at how you respond: dressing up and rushing to embrace the God who will demand of you not less than everything. Welcome to Saint Francis, and return often.

A mass of legend and literature, which increases and will never end, has repeated and rung the changes on that single paradox; that the hands that had made the sun and stars were too small to reach the huge heads of the cattle.  — G. K. Chesterton

Jesus, the king of kings, was born in what essentially was an old shed where animals fed and slept. Why?

This king was different. This king came to serve, not to be served. He was born to die for us.

This Christmas Eve, come and discover Jesus, laid in a manger, bringing joy to the world.
