Holy Week and Easter Services, 2010

Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday, March 28
8:00 am: Holy Eucharist
9:00 & 11:15 am: Choral Eucharist and Liturgy of the Palms
The congregation bearing palms, the service begins with acolytes, choir, lay assistants, and clergy processing with palms to commemorate Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Suddenly, the tone of the liturgy changes and we meditate upon Jesus' passion and death. 

Monday and Tuesday in Holy Week, March 29 - 30
6:00 pm: Holy Eucharist, in the chapel 

Wednesday in Holy Week, March 31
10:00 am: Holy Eucharist, in the chapel
  6:00 pm: Holy Eucharist, in the chapel

Maundy Thursday, April 1
6:30 pm: Maundy Thursday Supper, Saint Francis Hall
7:30 pm: Maundy Thursday Liturgy: Holy Eucharist
As night falls, our Lenten observance comes to an end and we gather as the Church does throughout the world to mark the 'Triduum', the Sacred Three Days.

Good Friday, April 2
Noon to 3 pm: The Good Friday Liturgy
The tolling of the bell 33 times. Hymns, music, prayers, and homilies. The informing metaphor of the homilies this year is the Collect for Fridays: "Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." Come when you can; leave when you must.

Holy Saturday, April 3
9:15 am: Holy Saturday Office

Easter Eve, April 3
4:00 pm: The Service of Holy Baptism (no Eucharist) 

EASTER DAY, Sunday, April 4
7:30 am: Traditional Eucharist with Hymns 
  [Note the time is not the normal 8:00 am.]
9:00 & 11:15 am: Festival Choral Eucharist with brass and timpani.

When the hour had come for him to be glorified by you, his

Rejoice now, heavenly hosts and choirs of angels, and let your trumpets shout Salvation for the victory of our mighty King. Rejoice and sing now, all the round earth, bright with a glorious splendor, for darkness has been vanquished by our eternal King.
